Paris Internship- Address Correction**

For those of you who applied to the Mount Internship in Paris, France, there has been a correction made to the original application. An incorrect zip code was listed for the address to mail to. They have still received submissions as all the rest of the information is correct, but just to be sure, the correct zip code is 10538. For those of you who haven’t applied yet, all applications must be accepted by October 16, 2009. Please read our original post for this opportunity below for details.

Harrington has been made aware of an opportunity for an internship abroad in Paris. Edith Wharton’s estate in the Berkshires, The Mount, has announced that the 2010 Salute to French Design (in which leading French interior designers will design various rooms in the estate) will be showcasing next summer. Designers include Andrée Putman, Tristan Auer, Elliott Barnes, Michel and Daniel Bismut, Maxime d’Angeac and Nicole Zaech, Olivier Lempereur, Michael McKinnon, Leiko Oshima, and Antonio Virga.

One student will be paired with each designer on location in Paris, during this coming Spring semester of 2010. In order to be considered for this opportunity, you must be currently enrolled in or have passed ID III.

Unpaid Internship with Jayson Home and Garden

Jayson Home and Garden Internship

The Program: Jayson Home and Garden gives students hands-on training in their field of interest. Interns learn about day-to-day operations in running a successful high-end home furnishings and accessories retail store. Interns must commit to working a minimum of 10 hours per week. It is an unpaid internship, and a successful internship will not necessarily translate into permanent employment; however, interns are

given at least the same consideration as other candidates when job opportunities arise.

Learning Objectives include the following.

§ Gain knowledge of how to enter purchase orders into JHG database

§ Opportunity to create storyboards to rapidly develop brand concepts based on trends and get optimal products in showroom

§ Become skilled at writing and/or changing descriptions of merchandise on the Jayson Home and Garden website

§ Use personal creativity in creating and implementing window and store displays and/or rotate and breakdown displays while keeping the integrity of the Jayson Home and Garden brand.

§ Opportunity to strategically place merchandise according to season, trend, store layout, etc.

§ Assist in developing and implementing Jayson Home and Garden’s annual Flea Market

§ Research antiques and unique merchandise for use in Flea Market

§ Gain an understanding of the goals and challenges specifically related to high-end retail

Additional Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

§ Obtain merchandise requested by customer or receive merchandise selected by customer

§ Answer customer’s questions concerning location, price, and use of merchandise

§ Keep the showroom clean and orderly


§ Previous retail or customer service experience.

§ Ability to speak effectively with customers.

§ Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

§ Must be able to work with minimum amount of supervision during peak season hours.

§ Must be proactive in learning and willing to bring new ideas to colleagues.


§ Work and learning objectives will be reviewed on a monthly basis

§ College credit and professor contacts should be discussed, it is the student’s responsibility to make sure their supervisor has all necessary contacts and information.
