Connie Garner and I are revving up the Design Reading Club for the new year and have selected “Loving Frank”, by Nancy Horan, as our next book (available in paperback and Kindle editions, as well as at your public library)..
In 1903, Mamah and her husband, Edwin, had commissioned the renowned architect Frank Lloyd Wright to design a new home for them. During the construction of the house, a powerful attraction developed between Mamah and Frank, and in time the lovers, each married with children, embarked on a course that would shock Chicago society and forever change their lives. — Amazon
“This graceful, assured first novel tells the remarkable story of the long-lived affair between Frank Lloyd Wright, a passionate and impossible figure, and Mamah Cheney, a married woman whom Wright beguiled and led beyond the restraint of convention. It is engrossing, provocative reading.”
We will meet for our first discussion of the book on Monday, Feb. 6, 12:00 – 1:00 pm, in Room 328, then finish our discussion on Monday, Feb. 20, same time, same place. Announcements and posted questions about the reading can be found on the Portal website under the Meetings tab.
